Automatic straw distribution for poultry houses

7 November 2024 | Int. Livestockhousing Guide |

The Strohmatic Air ASD is a fully automatic straw distribution system that distributes dedusted straw evenly throughout the house. This system is particularly suitable for turkey houses. It enables targeted spreading, and the spreading times and quantities can be set flexibly. An automatic bedding process is also possible by setting a daily program. Not using a tractor or other external litter spreader in the poultry house eliminates a potential transmission route for pathogens. This significantly improves hygiene and reduces the spread of histomoniasis by redistributing litter daily.

Dedusting the chopped straw also prevents contamination of the lungs with Aspergillus spores. In addition to improving hygiene, less labour is required as the stock of straw in the bale breaker only needs to be replenished periodically.

The maximum distribution radius is 8 m per distributor. The maximum delivery rate is 700 kg/hour. The Strohmatic Air ASD is controlled by a new, improved and online accessible control unit and distributes the desired amounts of straw at defined times. This eliminates the need for manual distribution. Duck, turkey or other straw barns (cattle, pigs, sheep, goats) can be automatically littered with small quantities of chopped and dedusted straw several times a day. The Strohmatic Air ASD saves on the amount of straw needed and reduces dust production. This clean and safe method is a valuable addition for the cattle sector, for deep litter houses and for pigs housed in large, straw litter pens.

Strohmatic Air ASD with automatic straw distribution significantly promotes animal welfare, prevents potential pathogens from entering the pens and minimise energy use and the workload.
