Maan Biobased Products and Klasmann-Deilmann developed the Growcoon to improve root development, promote more sustainable cultivation, and ensure safe, stress-free transplanting with fewer losses. Years of experience with the Growcoon have confirmed that the multifunctional plug is suitable for every crop and every substrate. In view of the increasing demand, development is now focusing on the more advanced automation of the Growcoon application in order to enable efficient working processes in nurseries.
The Growcoon is often used in crops with high turnover rates. In January of this year, after a one-year test phase, the next major grower began using millions of Growcoons. The test results of the Growcoon in the crop were as convincing as the use of the new, further developed automatic dispenser.
Creating an efficient work process requires well-thought-out and precise automation. For nurseries with the highest requirements on their plant lines, Maan Horti Automation has now developed the new Basic and Advanced dispensers for the Growcoon.
These latest filling machines are available in a semi-automatic or fully automatic version. The dispenser in the Basic line works with a drop chute. The automatic Advanced dispenser is currently undergoing final testing to further optimise its integration into existing automatic tray filling lines. The focus here is on precision in the filling process for the Growcoon into the trays and increasing the throughput capacity in conjunction with high line speeds.

‘The demand for higher cultivation capacities is increasing,’ explains Product Manager Raymond van Ispelen. ’The Advanced Dispenser series is our answer to this. It can process large quantities of young plant plugs with extreme precision, increases operational production capacity, simplifies operation and can be easily integrated into existing automated tray filling lines in nurseries. The result is a reduction in labour costs. The Advanced Growcoon dispenser is an investment that pays off.’
Van Ispelen is convinced of the advantages of the Advanced dispenser. “The investment leads to improved work quality and a lower workload for employees. This is a welcome solution for attracting and retaining an increasingly scarce workforce.”
The Growcoon Advanced dispenser will be unveiled to the public during the GreenTech trade fair in Amsterdam early June.

The Growcoon is a multifunctional propagation plug suitable for any crop and substrate. It has an open mesh structure for optimal root growth and fits perfectly in all standard trays. The material is 100% biodegradable and PFAS-free. After use, it decomposes and breaks down into carbon and H2O. This process is TÜV-certified.
