Optimal light conditions are key to successful greenhouse cultivation. NOWOGREEN®, the innovative ETFE film, ensures maximum light transmission and energy efficiency throughout all harvesting cycles – thanks especially to its unique hydrophilic inner coating.
Cycle 1 – January to April
During the low-light winter and early spring months, NOWOGREEN®’s clear variant delivers up to 94% light transmission (92% for the diffuse type). Its self-cleaning outer surface prevents dirt buildup, while the hydrophilic inner coating eliminates condensation droplets. Instead of forming light-scattering drops, the rising condensate transforms into a laminary film of water that drains off the surface in a controlled manner. This prevents lensing effects that can cause burn marks on crops and ensures consistent UV transmission.
Cycle 2 – May to July
In summer, intense solar radiation can overheat greenhouses. Traditionally, chalk coatings are applied to reduce UV exposure – an expensive and water-intensive process, since the lacquer needs to be washed off again at the end of this phase. Due to ETFE’s high surface tension, chalk paint does not adhere to the film. Instead, automated shading systems offer a more efficient and sustainable solution – minimizing operational effort and water use.
Cycle 3 – August to December
As hours of daylight shorten, every ray of natural light becomes valuable. NOWOGREEN®’s self-cleaning and hydrophilic features continue to support optimal light conditions without the need for artificial lighting.
