Equal pressure ventilation also ideal for pig houses

Traditionally, pig houses often use negative pressure-based ventilation. However, equal pressure ventilation is an excellent alternative that can be applied effectively in practice and also offers several additional advantages. For this reason, our Dutch distributor Connectro, in consultation with the customer, opted for an equal pressure system with the new Fancom air inlet ducts in a recently built finishing pig house.

There were several reasons for this choice. Due to the location of the house (positioned between two other houses for fire safety reasons) and the width of the building, there were not enough options to install air inlet valves. In addition, the investment costs for constructing a lowered insulated ceiling were too high. This made it necessary to look for an alternative, which was found in equal pressure ventilation.

In the new house, air supply and exhaust are controlled via ducts in the roof ridge. Both processes are actively managed: fresh air is blown into the house, while used air is removed in a controlled way. With the settings in the Lumina 21 climate computer, the farmer can regulate the climate in the house with great precision.

Fancom’s recirculation inlet chimney also is the perfect solution for an optimally controlled climate for free range houses with outdoor access through pop holes. The multiple openings in the side wall of the house can disrupt the desirable ventilation pattern.

An additional advantage of the inlet ducts is that they make use of recirculation technology. Warm air from the house is mixed with fresh outside air, reducing the need for heating and saving significant amounts of energy. Moreover, the preheated air is evenly distributed from above throughout the house via the ducts. This ensures the same air quality everywhere and minimizes the effect of pen partitions on air distribution.

The installation in this new finishing pig house was carried out by our distributor Connectro. The house is now complete, the animals are in place, and the first rounds are being closely monitored and are going well. We look forward with great interest to the further results of this innovative system.
