Modiform Presents Innovative Reusable Transport Tray System at Trade Fair Aalsmeer (Patent Pending)

In line with increasing sustainability ambitions and European PPWR legislation, Modiform is introducing a new reusable transport tray system, building on the concept presented earlier this year at IPM. The company has recently applied for a patent for this system. This innovative solution was showcased extensively during the Royal FloraHolland Trade Fair in Aalsmeer.
Since the introduction of the Packaging & Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), the European packaging legislation in 2024, transport trays for plant pots have also been subject to stricter requirements. The legislation stipulates that by 2030, plastic transport packaging must largely be reusable within the EU. For internal transport within a single country or company, full reuse is mandatory; in other cases, at least 40% of trays must be reusable.
Modiform addresses this with a new system that has minimal impact on existing processes, is easy to handle in logistics and storage, and meets the new regulatory requirements. The system is universally applicable while maintaining the plant- and pot-specific functionality growers are accustomed to with single-use trays.
The system consists of four tray formats, aligned with the Normpack® series:
- NP 200 (400×280 mm)
- NP 400 (564×253 mm)
- NP 300 (564×315 mm)
- NP Cactus (270×248 mm)
Each size is available with a water reservoir, resulting in four universal trays. These trays are made from plastic containing at least 35% recycled material and are fully recyclable.
The trays are designed to be combined with various cardboard inlays, available in multiple versions to accommodate the wide range of pot sizes. After use, these inlays can be easily recycled through regular cardboard waste streams.
Gert-Jan Smal, Senior Product Consultant at Modiform: “We have developed a system that is universally applicable while meeting the specific needs of the entire supply chain. It is robust, stable, and easy to use.”
