Efficient management of agricultural waste is one of the major challenges facing the sector. In this context, BioTutor® is an innovative and environmentally friendly solution for crop staking. Available in black or cream, this twine is made from biocompostable biopolymers and is certified “OK Compost Industrial” in accordance with standard EN 13432.
Industrial composting: closing the life cycle
Industrial composting is the fastest and most effective way to manage the end of a product’s useful life. Thanks to microbial activity and temperatures above 50°C, the rope degrades completely, leaving only CO2, water, and biomass. This ensures minimal environmental impact and contributes to the circular economy.
Reliability and performance
Designed to last an entire growing season, BioTutor® maintains its integrity in normal environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, UV radiation), preventing premature biodegradation. This feature offers farmers peace of mind and allows it to be used on a wide range of crops, both under cover (tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers) and outdoors (hops).
With a breaking strength of between 26 and 36 kg, BioTutor® outperforms conventional cotton or cellulose twine in terms of mechanical performance, ensuring reliable support throughout the crop cycle.
Operational costs and benefits
Although its initial price is between 2 and 3 times higher than standard polypropylene (PP) twine, BioTutor® significantly reduces management and treatment costs at the end of its useful life. While plant waste mixed with PP twine is considered industrial waste, the use of compostable twine and biodegradable clips allows the remains to be sent directly to composting centers, simplifying logistics and reducing the economic differential. In addition, there are European subsidies through operational funds for producers who adopt sustainable solutions.
