Brainstorming about a future-proof lily sector

10 February 2025 | Int. Greenhouse Guide |

During the four days of the Dutch Lily Days, the lily-growing sector of the Netherlands is again presenting a podium to discuss the developments in the sector. This 13th event is being held from Tuesday to Friday, 3 to 6 June 2025. Thirteen Dutch lily breeders and exporters are opening their doors and rolling out the red carpet for fellow experts. The Dutch Lily Days have become a permanent fixture in the sector’s calendar and attract thousands of visitors from near and far.

Keeping with tradition, the Dutch Lily Days is the perfect event where breeding companies, growers and trading companies can meet. It is an ideal opportunity to brainstorm about current developments, make new contacts and discover novelties. Visitors cannot help but exchange ideas about the importance of resilient and resistant varieties. To ensure a future-proof sector, it is essential to have cultivation techniques that burden the environment as little as possible. Breeders have already made great advances, and by careful selection and using biotests, stronger varieties are entering the market.

Newcomer
As usual, there are 13 participants in the Dutch Lily Days. Bulb producer Jan de Wit en Zonen from Enkhuizen is taking the place of World Breeding. Newcomer Nico de Wit introduces the company. “We have been involved in the export of lily bulbs for 40 years. During the Lily Days, we always receive a lot of visitors. We felt that it was time to join this great event formally. It’s a sound concept: customers consider it valuable to spend a few days discovering what is currently going on in our sector.”

Participants
Interested parties are welcome to visit the following companies in the first week of June: P. Aker, Boots Flowerbulbs, Van den Bos Flowerbulbs, Bot Flowerbulbs, De Jong Lelies Holland, Lily Company, Onings Holland Flowerbulbs, C. Steenvoorden, Gebr. Vletter & Den Haan, VWS Flowerbulbs, Jan de Wit en Zonen, Zabo Plant and Royal Van Zanten Flowerbulbs.
