Custom made spray robot for strawberries finds its way through the greenhouse

Growers within the cultivation of strawberries are looking for ways to optimize their labor. One of these ways is automatic crop treatment. For this reason, strawberry growers at WestBerrry De Lier and T’ Aardbeihofke in Ravels choose for an automatic spraying robot that is capable of spraying multiple paths at the same time.

Advantages of an automatic spraying robot
WestBerry De Lier and T’ Aardbeihofke have recently bought a custom Meto spray robot of Berg Hortimotive at Steenks Service. A Meto spray robot improves the quality of spraying, saves working hours, crop products and it’s better for your health, because you don’t have contact with the crop. Sander Zuidgeest from Steenks Service: “We offer the opportunity to build a custom made spray mast to spray multiple paths at the same time. Furthermore, nozzles on the spray mast can be directed forwards and sideways to spray the façade of the greenhouse as well”.

In Belgium drives a Meto spray robot in combination with a Meto transport unit at T’ Aardbeidhofke. The transport unit ensures that the spray robot automatically moves to the next path. This combination of a robot and transport unit leads to a fully automatic process of crop treatment. Jos Rens of T’Aardbeihofke is enthusiastic about the machine: “I only have to activate the machine and it sprays automatic the whole greenhouse. I can focus myself, during the spraying, on other work which saves a lot of time”. Furthermore, the spray robot can spray 7 paths at the same time. In this case, 7 paths is equal to a width of 8 meters. Therefore a spray arm of galvanized steel with 7 spray masts has been used. The machine can be stored easily with a foldable spray arm.

At the location in De Lier are strawberries grown for the first time. In the past tomatoes were grown. Ed Zwinkels of WestBerry: “The opportunity to spray multiple path at the same time saves a lot of labor. For this reason I have chosen for this machine”.
