Freedom to move and lie down in a Dreamstall stall divider

8 January 2025 | Int. Livestockhousing Guide |

Lying down is important for the health of a cow’ s hoofs, joints and udders and essential for rumination. A cow normally lies down for more than twelve hours a day. Based on these natural needs, cubicles are designed to enable cows to lie down comfortably and without being disturbed. The Dreamstall from Cowhouse International goes a step further.

The Dreamstall divider enables the cows to stand virtually freely in the cubicles and to move more naturally. The special feature of this cubicle design is the absence of the classic neck tube and the conventional, classic dividing bars. The neck tube is replaced by two flexible, spherical bodies that guide the standing cow’s shoulder area. This enables the cow to stand freely in a ‘gap’ and with her head raised even in the cubicle. The conventional dividing bars have been replaced by two horizontal, flexible guide frames that guide the standing cow to a central standing position. This enables cows to use the complete lying area and enjoy undisturbed rest when lying down. When the cow stands up, she is not guided into the right position by a horizontal neck rail, but by two flexible, synthetic spheres. The Dreamstall encourages cows to exhibit their typical, natural behaviour and promotes animal welfare and health.
