Gonvarri Agrotech completes its R&D Greenhouse in Asturias -Spain

Gonvarri Agrotech has successfully completed the installation of its Demo greenhouse near Gonvarri Asturias, marking a significant milestone in its commitment to innovation and sustainability.

This High-Tech Gothic greenhouse will be the core of its Research and Development (R&D) Center, reaffirming Gonvarri Industries’ dedication to technological development in the agro-industry sector.

The Demo greenhouse is designed to develop pioneering projects that will improve greenhouse efficiency. The current initiatives include:

• New coating materials: Research focuses on developing advanced plastics to reduce the temperature inside the greenhouse, helping to optimize the climate conditions for plants year-round, especially in those latitudes where high temperatures are a challenge for agricultural production.
• Photovoltaic energy integration: Moving towards energy self-sufficiency greenhouses, the integration of photovoltaic panels allows the greenhouse to generate the energy needed for its operation, reducing reliance on external energy sources, and decreasing the carbon footprint.
• Digitalization and monitoring technologies: To enhance efficiency and productivity, advanced data monitoring systems are being developed. These technologies will enable real-time data collection, analyzing key variables such as temperature, humidity, and light levels, facilitating more precise and automated greenhouse management.
•  New ground-cover materials that help plants to use more efficiently the solar radiation entering the greenhouse. The radiation reaching the ground is reflected towards the plant in the wavelength that can be used to improve the crop yield.
