After Zayndu’s ActivatedAir technology caught the attention of a team member at a trade show, 80 Acres Farms decided to investigate whether this technology could accelerate the quality and growth of their crops in the early stages.

Megan Gambrill, 80 Acres Farms Head Grower, explains: “A lot of spinach has different germination rates, so you might have one batch that comes in with 80% germination or one with 90% germination. We want all of them to achieve 90% or above.”
In their initial trials with ActivatedAir, the spinach consistently achieved over 90% germination.
The ease of incorporating ActivatedAir into their production system was also a significant selling point to the 80 Acres Farms growing team.
“Other technologies were not so easy to do that with, so when I was looking at options for ways that we could improve seed germination as well as other benefits to our seed growing process, ActivatedAir was really at the top of the list. We could just move the machine into our seeding room, do the seed treatments as we consume the seeds, and it eased right into our production systems,” adds Megan.
Vertical Future, Northampton, UK
Vertical Future has been using ActivatedAir at Syan Farms vertical farm in Northampton, and it’s averaging a 15% yield improvement from the technology.
Jen Bromley, chief scientific officer for Vertical Future, has witnessed significant improvements in leafy green yields. The biggest was a 34% yield increase in a commercial lettuce crop.
“One real benefit we’ve seen through using Zayndu technology is that you can shorten the growth cycle,” says Jen. “Knocking a couple of days off a short-cycle crop like a lettuce or brassica means you can add an extra cycle into a year.”
