A few years ago all of our mobile robots were exactly the same width as what they were putting down on the ground. In the greenhouse, space around the machines was tight. While outside, some robots grew very big.
The long side-shift allows smaller robots to have larger working widths. This also creates space around them in the greenhouse or results in smaller machines outside.
For the Terra-Spacer, it means larger working widths than previously possible. That also results in less manual movements, switching between beds.
The Compact used to have a disadvantage inside, because on one side of the machine, there was always a conveyor belt in the way. With the long side-shift we can surpass that belt so we can put the whole greenhouse full from left to right.
On the Degraplace, despite a more narrow fork, it actually means we achieve higher working widths because it creates a buffer on the conveyor.
The long side-shift is not a necessity for all robots, but it provides benefits for many clients.
